Press Release: TOMMI GERMAN CHILDREN'S SOFTWARE AWARD: 2025 WINNERS

Over the past few weeks, 3,179 children and teenagers have shown just how much gaming expertise they possess. At more than 40 public libraries, they tested—with the guidance of trained library staff—around 70 games and educational programs. With their critical eye, gaming experience, and extensive knowledge of the gaming world, they served as a nationwide children’s jury to decide which titles would receive a TOMMI this year.

At the awards ceremony on December 14, 2025, the winners were announced on the media show“Team Timster”on KiKA, on kika.de, and in the KiKA app.

Inclusive testing phasestook place again in 2025: The“GamingWithout Borders” initiativesupportedand validated the entire process for the fourth time, ensuring that children with different needs could participate on an equal footing.

“Year after year, the TOMMI Award demonstrates just how valuable the perspectives of children and young people are,” says Karin Prien, Federal Minister of Education, Family, Seniors, Women, and Youth, and patron of the award. “The children’s jury examines the digital offerings themselves, compares them, evaluates them, and makes a decision. When young people contribute their perspectives, it creates opportunities for self-fulfillment, creativity, and genuine participation. Public libraries play a central role in this: They offer access to all children and are, at the same time, safe places where media literacy is strengthened. The award highlights how important the perspectives of children and young people are for the quality of digital educational and gaming offerings—and how libraries are becoming central hubs for digital participation and media literacy.” And KiKA editor Anne Reichenbach adds: “The TOMMI also gives smaller games a platform and lets children decide for themselves what they really like. Testing and evaluating the games together is fun, strengthens their media literacy, and shows that they can actively help shape the digital world.”
