At the awards ceremony, Lisa Paus, Federal Minister for Family Affairs and patron of the TOMMI Award, said: “The German Children’s Software Award TOMMI sends a strong message about participation and equal opportunity: In 2024, children and young people will once again independently select the best games and digital educational offerings. What’s particularly encouraging is that the testing takes place in public libraries. This ensures that every single child has the opportunity to try out the offerings and actively participate in the voting process.”

TOMMI SIEGER 2024
BEGRÜNDUNGEN DER KINDER- UND JUGENDJURY
KATEGORIE APPS
Platz 1: Emyo (Refutura)
Platz 2: LUNA The Shadow Dust mobile (Application Systems Heidelberg)
Platz 3: PLANET WOW Wildlife Adventure (Blue Ocean Entertainment)
KATEGORIE PC
Platz 1: Monster Jam Showdown (Plaion/Milestone)
Platz 2: Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (THQ Nordic)
KATEGORIE KONSOLE
Platz 1: Astro Bot (Sony Interactive Entertainment)
Platz 2: Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo)
3rd Place: Princess Peach: Showtime! (Nintendo)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “Princess Peach: Showtime!” wins the TOMMI because she finally gets to play the lead role and be the heroine. We have to save a theater, take on a different role in each play, and then use special abilities to solve challenges. There’s so much to discover that it was really fun. We especially loved all the cool costumes. Princess Peach becomes a real action figure here, and she pulls off her attacks really well. That’s why she fully deserves the win.
CATEGORY: YOUTH AWARD FOR GAMES
1st Place: Astro Bot (Sony Interactive Entertainment)
Here’s what the youth jury had to say: “Astro Bot” wins the TOMMI because it’s an exciting platformer that captivates us with its humor and depth of gameplay. As we searched for the lost and hidden bots, we especially loved the imaginative worlds and the creative enemies. Our task is to complete missions, solve puzzles, and get ourselves out of tricky situations time and time again. In each round, we gain a new power. The controls are great, the story is gripping, and the graphics are totally cool.
2nd Place: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Ubisoft)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” wins the TOMMI because it’s a super-cool game and we love real action games. As one of the Seven Immortals, we bravely set out to find the Prince of Persia. In the game, we jump, climb, and fight our way through a mountain, using lots of different combos. The story about the lost crown totally sucked us into the 2D Metroidvania world. The graphics and gameplay are awesome.
3rd Place: Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (THQ Nordic)
Here’s what the youth jury had to say: “Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed” wins the TOMMI because it’s a game with a powerful, dark, and even slightly creepy atmosphere. The graphics fit this mood perfectly and made the game a lot of fun to play on the console. The game is both super-realistic and fantastical. To save this world, we collect badges, which give us the hearts we need to survive. There’s also a helper. We won’t forget this adventure anytime soon.
CATEGORY: ELECTRONIC TOYS
1st Place: Boxing Bots (Kosmos)
Here’s what the kids’ jury says: “Boxing Bots” wins the TOMMI because it’s so much fun to have exciting battles with a friend. Everyone has an equal chance of winning. It’s easy to put together, and the kangaroo figures are very agile. You box one of the funny opponents, and when you knock him down, you get a point. It was fun to fight and dodge without getting hurt. It’s a great toy—the hydraulics are cool, and it doesn’t need any power.
2nd Place: Airo – My Interactive Robot (Clementoni)
Here’s what the kids’ jury says: “Airo – My Interactive Robot” wins the TOMMI because robots are just super cool! Even while putting it together, it’s a blast to watch how a real robot gradually takes shape from all the individual parts. You can control Airo with an app and even program him yourself. That’s totally exciting because then we can teach him everything we want him to do. He can do a lot of cool things: play hockey, dance, and he moves really well.
3rd Place: My Really Real Puppy (Moose)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “My Really Real Puppy” wins the TOMMI because it’s just TOO cute and we get to take care of our very own dog. It’s great to have such a beautiful, fluffy, cuddly dog that feels almost like a real one. We can pet him, feed him, or put him to sleep. The sounds he makes are just as realistic as those of a real dog. He reacts to us and is lifelike. For a few hours, we had a cute dog. Woof!
3rd Place: Easy Elektro – Games (Kosmos)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “Easy Elektro – Games” wins the TOMMI because it’s really fun to build circuits, and we learn a lot about electronics in the process. It takes a little while to understand everything, but the illustrated instructions explained everything clearly. You can generate sound waves, display numbers, or even build a propeller that actually spins. We were always thrilled when, after tinkering and building, it actually worked. It’s definitely fun to do with the family, too.
CATEGORY: EDUCATION
1st Place: Little Impacts (Federal Environment Agency/Quantumfrog)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “Little Impact” won the TOMMI because it’s a game about the environment and climate protection. We play as Mailin, who only eats vegan food, cares about the environment, and even goes to protests. The story has an important message: We can all do something to help the environment! It was exciting to learn more about climate protection, even though there was a lot to read, which was a bit tiring. But we learned how to help others, like friends and family.
2nd Place: Math with TOM—the Math Game for Kids with Martina Hill (SWR planet schule)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “Math with TOM—the Math Game for Kids with Martina Hill” wins the TOMMI because practicing math is really fun here and completely different from how it is in school. To make sure that funny character Tom gets his strawberry jam sandwich, we solved lots of individual math problems, which is great practice for mental math. There was no stress, and the explanations were easy to understand. The problems with crocodiles and fish were funny. At the end, there was a video of Tom. Finally!
3rd Place: The Unstoppables 2: Tofu in Danger (Cerebral Foundation / Gentle Troll / LerNetz)
Here's what the kids' jury had to say: "The Unstoppables 2: Tofu in Danger!" wins the TOMMI,
because it showed us what life is like for people with disabilities. For example, the heroes are in wheelchairs or are blind. We especially liked that, even though the children are very different, each one is particularly good at something different. It’s great that we get tips and that we don’t just play with one person. You always have to figure out how to solve puzzles with a group of people.
CATEGORY: YOUTH EDUCATION AWARD
1st Place: Scavenger Hunt (Dennis Westermann)
Here’s what the youth jury says: “Schnitzeljägerei” wins the TOMMI because it’s a great game for treasure hunts. We hide small cards with QR codes and then take photos with clues so that others can search for and find these locations. For example, we searched for QR codes at the library. There’s always a section of an image that leads us to the next code. It took some effort, but that’s exactly what made it so much fun. Perfect for birthday parties.
2nd Place: Little Impacts (Federal Environment Agency/Quantumfrog)
Here’s what the youth jury had to say: “Little Impact” wins the TOMMI because it’s the right game at the right time. Issues like climate protection and the environment are already on our minds, and this visual novel helps us learn more about how everyone can do their part to make the world a better place. It’s exciting to read the story, even if there’s a bit too much text at times. But you can also do cool things, like draw posters, which made the story come alive. The style was really cool.
3rd Place: Join The Comfortzone (Baden-Württemberg Youth Foundation)
Here’s what the youth jury had to say: “Join The Comfortzone” wins the TOMMI because it’s a really awesome game. The story is set in a dystopian future, in a totalitarian state. If you follow the rules, you have nothing to fear and earn social points. As we try to help our rebellious sister, we’re constantly forced to make decisions that can either help or hurt her—and us. That really weighed on our conscience. The game had a cool comic-book style and shows once again how important life in a democracy is.
TOMMI: BEST FAMILY GAME FOR DAYCARE CENTERS
1st Place: Scavenger Hunt (Dennis Westermann)
Laudation: Kids love hide-and-seek. And one classic game is the scavenger hunt, in which objects or riddles are hidden for others to find. “Schnitzeljägerei” brings this idea to an app for kids. But not everything is digital—the ten game cards are meant to be hidden in a room or outdoors. The hiders then use the app to take a photo of just a small portion of the hiding spot, so that only the clues are visible. Using the same app, the other children search for the hidden cards based on the photos. Then they scan the QR code on the card they’ve found and look for the next one. At the end, there’s a prize. The kids have a lot of fun with this, and they realize that it’s not just about choosing good hiding spots—they also have to be careful about what’s in the frame of their photo.
2nd Place: Edurino: Alex—Learning to Tell Time (Edurino)
Laudation: While some children already have a digital clock on their nightstand or see one on a tablet or smartphone, can they actually tell time on an analog clock with hour and minute hands? Most of the time, no. That’s why it’s important for them to be able to do so when they see analog clocks at train stations or in public places. Alex the horse in the app helps them correctly understand the positions of the hour and minute hands. The app also takes them on a journey through time. This is always exciting for children because they learn a lot along the way. They also enjoy the well-designed graphics. When children learn to tell time, they become more independent and self-confident. This means adults can no longer cheat by setting time limits during play, since the children can then keep track of the time themselves.
3rd Place: Milu's Word Adventure (Limedix GmbH)
Praise: Little Milu is so cute—an alien who arrives on Earth in his spaceship and discovers new words together with the children. The journey takes them to a city, the market, or various professions. And everywhere they go, new words are waiting for the children to learn. And you don’t have to know how to read, because all the words are spoken aloud. They can even choose the game character and the game mode themselves. This variety appeals to the children and keeps learning from getting boring. It’s even rewarding, because after successful learning sessions, there are little games to relax. And the words for the things they learn are discovered in everyday life, helping them name them correctly. It’s great when kids can point to something and know the word for it. And Milu is an important companion in this process—one the kids come to love. So let’s go—out into the world and use the words they’ve learned to understand it better.
