Germany’s surrender was accompanied by the destruction of German cities. The “Berlin 1945” project allows users to compare images from 1945 with current photos, thereby offering a glimpse into Berlin’s reconstruction. Photos of destroyed buildings and structures are juxtaposed with contemporary views. A particularly engaging feature is that students can photograph existing buildings today and are encouraged to upload these images. History comes to life on a smartphone or tablet through images taken at the locations visited or via the embedded city map.

Critical note from mobilsicher.de: During testing, the app established internet connections to three different analytics services and transmitted, among other things, information about app usage and the device being used, but no personally identifiable data. The services in question are Crashly$cs (by Google), App Measurement (by Google), and Visual Studio AppCenter (formerly HockeyApp, by Microsoft).
