2026 Games Awards
3rd place - Sling-A-Thing (Navel)
Here’s what the kids’ jury had to say: “Sling-A-Thing” wins the TOMMI because we like games that are easy to understand but aren’t as simple as they seem at first glance. In the game, we flick things like apples through different levels so they reach a door. This earns us points, power-ups, and a steady stream of new levels. Since there are often obstacles in the way, we have to really think things through and figure it out. Precisely because we often had to start over, we laughed a lot and got really competitive. We want to play it again and again.
Here’s what the expert jury had to say: The premise is quite simple: In a straightforward, brightly colored setting, you must fling an object toward an exit door. The challenge lies not only in the limited distance the object travels—as if propelled by an imaginary rubber band—but also in navigating obstacles and chasms. What makes the whole thing really fun and tricky is the ability to transform the object mid-flight. And the objects behave differently: the apple rolls, the football-shaped egg flies in a high arc, and the anvil plummets downward, breaking through barriers. With over 20 objects and more than 200 levels, the game offers plenty of entertainment and variety.
