Special prize kindergarten preschool: Osmo Coding Awbie (Tangible Play)
Here’s what educators say: With “Osmo Coding Awbie,” kids learn to code without even realizing it. Awbie is looking for his animal friends in the forest, but the young players have to show him the way—using game tiles arranged in front of the tablet. Awbie only does what the preschoolers tell him to do. That’s why he ends up in the water every now and then, but this always causes a lot of laughter. Overall, the setup is very accessible and, especially at the beginning, offers plenty of guidance, so children can get started without any trouble. With “Osmo Coding Awbie,” young players learn to distinguish directions and to count. Last but not least, it also trains abstract thinking, as it becomes increasingly difficult to find the path and overcome obstacles. The children must plan ahead and program the route Awbie needs to take to find his animal friends again. The children’s jury had a lot of fun completing the tasks, and programming became an adventure that fascinated the jury members so much that they didn’t want to stop.
