Agile Plumber: “Super Mario 3D Land” isn’t just a thrilling and varied platformer—it’s also one of the few titles that uses the 3DS’s stereoscopic capabilities for more than just a graphical gimmick. Various levels trick you with optical illusions and make clever, gameplay-driven use of the 3D display. There’s simply a wonderful abundance of things to discover, collect, and conquer.

Here’s what the kids’ jury has to say:
“Super Mario 3D Land” takes first place at the TOMMI Awards because it’s simply the best Super game in the world. Since we’re already pretty familiar with Mario, we can jump right in. This platformer is even better than “Super Mario Bros.” because there are so many power-ups, and it’s neither too hard nor too easy. The levels are incredibly long, very, very varied, and constantly change the direction of play. And the 3D effect is just amazing. For example, when we jump into deep chasms in 3D with a propeller, it somehow makes everyone’s knees go weak. Sometimes we stumble upon secret hideouts purely by chance. “Super Mario 3D Land” is one of the best Mario games ever; it’s a ton of fun and never gets boring. No sooner have we finished it than we start right back from the beginning. That’s how a good game should be.
