All that glitters is gold: Mario collects more gold coins than ever before. Who will grab the most? Friends can compare their scores with each other via an online connection (StreetPass). But the most fun is still playing through the entertaining levels together. Sometimes you’ll help each other out, since certain challenges can only be mastered as a team, and other times you’ll compete for the best bonuses. Thanks to the gold rush, there are also plenty of extra lives to be had.

“New Super Mario Bros. 2” took second place at TOMMI because it’s a true classic that never goes out of style thanks to its great gameplay. Even though it looks similar to its predecessor, we don’t see that as a downside. We love platformers simply because they require so much skill and never get boring. Plus, you never know what’s going to happen next. “New Super Mario Bros. 2” is very funny, exciting, and challenging. We especially loved the special effects, which are much better than in the previous game. Mario has different suits that give him special abilities. For example, when Mario turns into gold himself, everything collapses and turns into coins. In fact, we’ve never seen levels before that are so packed with gold coins. Everything is perfect.
