"The daycare center's concept combines digital technology with values and character in an exceptionally well-thought-out way."

Here’s what the expert jury for daycare centers had to say: The media concept at the BZ St. Konrad Daycare Center in Ravensburg stands out for its message, “You don’t need much to achieve a lot.” After all, digital education means not only teaching digital technology but also instilling values and shaping character. This daycare center’s concept combines both in an exceptionally well-rounded way. Above all, it emphasizes the creative and artistic potential of tablets. The children receive an introduction to this medium and are then free to let their ideas run wild. They are supported in this by a teacher who is specially trained in media education projects. She involves the team and the parents, ultimately developing a media education program—originally a preschool project—that is integrated into daily life and can be adapted for use in many other institutions. In terms of the approach’s content, the connection to the children’s everyday lives, the interweaving of analog and digital work, and the increased use of images and symbols in media education are particularly noteworthy. This enables the children to participate and engage in interest-driven work. Questions of values are addressed, for example, in relation to responsibility when using the devices, as well as respect for other children. By involving media-savvy elementary school teachers, the media-supported transition from preschool to elementary school can be successful. This collaboration is particularly exemplary.
