Sponsorship award - daycare center "kleines ganz groß" (Rostock)
2020 | Preschool Incentive Award | Winners
"A very successful project that strikes a great balance between technology, pedagogy, and creativity, as well as the children's independence."
Here’s what the early childhood education expert panel says: Excellent equipment alone isn’t enough—you also have to know how to make the most of it. The “kleines ganz groß” daycare center in Rostock uses both digital and traditional media in a variety of ways. These tools give the children the opportunity to express themselves artistically, document their experiences, and be creative. This approach engages all the senses—as seen, for example, in the sound memory game or the audio plays the children produce. At the same time, tablets are used to involve parents in the center’s media education efforts and keep them informed about the projects. The children are even introduced to programming using simple applications. All of this is possible because the children are thoroughly introduced to the technical and creative possibilities of digital media. Another smart move: involving local media representatives as technical supporters, who also help generate public awareness. At the same time, the media education approach is critical and teaches children how to use media in a way that is appropriate for their age. Overall, this is a very successful project in which the balance between technology, education, creativity, and the children’s independence is very well maintained.
