2nd place – Jo & Rubi: Archaeology at the Harbor – Nukuna Interactive
Here’s what the TOMMI Kids’ Jury has to say: “Jo and Rubi—Archaeology at the Harbor” wins the TOMMI because it sends us, as young archaeologists, on a journey of discovery. We follow two characters who have to search for objects, follow clues, and piece together the evidence correctly. Even though we’re just swiping and tapping, we still feel like we’re taking part in a real excavation. The mini-games are also varied and really fun.
Here’s what the expert jury had to say: In “Jo & Rubi,” children join the two main characters on exciting adventures centered around archaeology. Through play, they take on typical tasks such as conducting excavations, cleaning artifacts, or piecing together shards and artifacts. In this way, they learn in an age-appropriate manner how archaeology works and what steps are necessary to bring history to life. The app is beautifully designed and child-friendly; it features a variety of engaging tasks and conveys knowledge in an entertaining way, while fostering curiosity, attention to detail, and an understanding of history.
