In a world full of action games, a simulation game has taken first place—one that stands out especially for its social interaction. Instead of shooting things up and fighting monsters, players guide their characters through their “lives” and learn a lot about cause-and-effect relationships and consequences. What’s particularly gratifying about this first-place finish is the fact that The Sims are also extremely popular among girls. “The sequel to the most successful game of all time,” the expert jury aptly wrote, “is not just software for kids—but it is, too.”

Here’s what the kids’ jury has to say:“In our opinion, ‘The Sims 2’ deserves the TOMMI because there’s no better video game in the whole world. The 3-D graphics are enchanting and one-of-a-kind. Although the game is very hard to figure out at first, you quickly get the hang of it after a short learning curve. You can never replay a game exactly the same way because you’re living the lives of characters you’ve created down to the smallest detail, making all the decisions yourself and leaving nothing to chance. It’s fun that these Sims age, can get sick, and—when they’re old or sick—can even die. We also love that you can create and decorate neighborhoods yourself with details like flowers and clouds. The replay value is so high that you completely lose track of time.”
