Here’s what the youth jury says: “Facts & Fakes 2” won first place at the TOMMI Awards because this game helps us figure out what’s fake and what’s real. We think this topic is important; we enjoy doing research and checking different articles for their reliability. The game looks like a real news app and strikes a good balance between realistic and unrealistic elements. We like the mini-games, even though they get harder over time. We liked that the characters in the game are about our age and that we get to do a lot on our own.

Here’s what the expert jury had to say:With “Facts and Fakes 2,” the Deutsche Telekom Foundation is making a significant contribution to promoting media literacy among young people. The game enables them to recognize fake news and approach online sources critically. “Facts and Fakes 2” is free and can be used both in a browser and as an app. Its focus on social media and messaging services—which are frequently used by “tweens”—is particularly relevant. This makes the program especially relevant for children transitioning into adolescence.
