2026 Games Awards
1st place – Mario Kart World – Nintendo
Here’s what the TOMMI Kids’ Jury has to say: “Mario Kart World” wins the TOMMI because it’s just super fun to race against others, collect power-ups, and compete in exciting races on ever-changing tracks. We thought it was super cool to drive through fruit and chocolate and discover all the colorful worlds. We especially liked the many characters, the varied tracks, and the fact that we can play the game with our friends. Every game is different every time and always exciting.
Here’s what the expert jury has to say: Nintendo is taking a risk… Rebooting a cult classic like *Mario Kart* isn’t without its dangers. If you tweak the game design parameters too much, you’ll quickly draw the ire of players. For the first time, the 30 race tracks are connected by a largely open world. *Mario Kart World* is a blast. The lively big-band soundtrack and the opulent track designs contribute greatly to the atmosphere. I especially love the Knockout Tour, where the last four racers are eliminated at checkpoints—a real highlight.
