All children love the Sandmännchen, who—especially when they’re young—still tells them a lovely story before bedtime. The same goes for the app, which includes a wide variety of features, such as audio stories, games, picture stories, a memory game, a virtual piano for making music, and a section where children can move characters and objects around however they like. And, of course, children can also watch the familiar TV shows—often with additional sign language. Similar to the audio stories, these video files can also be downloaded, so you don’t need an internet connection to watch them. Children’s favorite part of the app is the game where, much like in “Fiete World,” they can move characters around a landscape however they like. In the process, they can explore many things and meet other characters. It’s an open-ended app with no specific goal, allowing children’s imagination and creativity to run wild. Since many children are familiar with the Sandmännchen from TV, they’ll have a lot of fun with this app. It’s also well-designed and easy for younger children to use. The Sandmännchen’s stories often present children with everyday scenarios from which they can learn something or discover the world. The variety is very well-received by the children, as there’s something for everyone. An all-around successful app that is much loved by children and therefore deserves first prize.
