2026 Games Awards
1st place - Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Nintendo)
Here’s what the kids’ jury has to say:
“Kirby and the Forgotten Land” wins first place at TOMMI because Kirby is so incredibly cute, the game feels like it never ends, and because even as pros, we still have so much left to discover. The game’s atmosphere is cheerful, bright, carefree, and just plain great. It’s a blast to explore the area in search of the bouncing creatures. Kirby runs, flies, and sucks up his enemies. Then he can use their superpowers and special abilities. Sucking up a car is awesome because Kirby then turns into a car himself. It’s just epic!
Here’s what the expert jury had to say: *
*
A piece of blown-up bubble gum as the main character in a game: Kirby is reminiscent of Hubba Bubba and moves almost the same way—rolling, hopping, wobbling around, and flying. That’s absurd enough, but in “Kirby: The Forgotten Land,” Kirby can also swallow objects and then use their abilities: as a car that drives around, as scaffolding that bounces about, or as a construction cone that can blow up holes. It’s a lot of fun. As the game progresses, the dystopian-looking world fits the story better and better.
