PLACE 2 - BOOK WITH VR: Oceans (Carlsen Verlag)
2021 | Education | Winners
Here’s what the kids’ jury has to say:
“Oceans” wins the TOMMI because the VR glasses make us feel like we’re really underwater. And that’s cool. We like that we get to decide for ourselves what we want to learn, because some topics are exciting and others aren’t so exciting. We can explore different things like the ocean floor, coral reefs, or plastic waste in the ocean. We’ve learned that corals are living creatures and that sharks aren’t out to get people—it’s just that collisions happen sometimes. It’s like a mix of a book and a movie.
Here’s what the expert jury had to say:
Spanning just over 50 pages, “Oceans” explores our planet’s fascinating underwater worlds, their most significant features, and their diverse inhabitants—as well as the threats humanity poses to the oceans. The attractively designed book invites readers to dive in for an extended exploration on its own, but the inclusion of a quick-fold cardboard VR headset ensures an even more immersive experience. Thanks to the accompanying app and the cardboard VR headset, readers are transported directly into half a dozen animated scenes from the book. A brief but wonderful experience for young explorers.
Note from jugendschutz.net: Very safe for children.
