“SimCity” is a classic among strategy games. In the fourth installment, players once again take on the role of a mayor, build their own city from the ground up, and—with the help of advisors—learn a great deal about causal relationships within their city. In doing so, they not only create a commercial infrastructure but also address social aspects: If there are enough daycare centers, schools, and hospitals, will residents be happy to move into their homes—and will they all find jobs? There are problems, too: Will a toxic waste dump pollute the air, will volcanic eruptions strike the city, and are taxes so high that the Sims will leave in dissatisfaction? In any case, the young mayors have their hands full.

Here’s what the kids’ jury says:“Sim City” offers fun, strategy, and excitement. It’s both fun and challenging to build a city that meets all its citizens’ needs. Unlike other games, not everything is predetermined. You can play “Sim City” over and over again because a different city emerges every time. And because it’s so versatile, the game doesn’t get boring quickly. What’s especially great: The scope is so vast that it never really ends. You can play this game for a very long time—and with friends, too.
