The Caribbean! Rum! Exotic locales! And, of course: pirates. A massive game world spanning 12 million square kilometers, turn-based naval battles, and extensive freedom of action are the ingredients that appeal to players looking for a change of pace from the usual action-packed games. “Port Royale” isn’t a game for a quick play session—it’s best to set aside an entire evening. After all, building an empire and defending it against enemies takes time. A consistently well-crafted and modern economic simulation.
