2026 Games Awards
2nd place - Switch: Super Mario Maker 2 (Nintendo)
2019 | Console Games | Winners
Here’s what the TOMMI Kids’ Jury has to say:“SuperMario Maker 2” should take second place at TOMMI because it lets us become our own game designers so easily. Yay! It’s really a lot of fun to build our own Mario levels using the extensive tools and let our creativity run wild. Then others get to struggle with them—even online. The levels in Adventure Mode are fun. Defeating Bowser is always a joy for us. Everything about this game is top-notch.
Here’s what the expert jury says: With “Super Mario Maker 2,” anyone can easily create “Super Mario”-style platformer levels. Using their fingers on the Switch’s touchpad, kids can move backgrounds around, place enemies in the levels, or add sound effects that play when they reach a certain spot. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also challenging. It’s great that finished creations can be shared with other players, or that you can test and modify their creations. If you don’t just want to build, you can also play first—a “Super Mario”-style game, of course.
